On the second day of the Australian Open Tennis Championship in Melbourne, Australia, Luxembourg's Gilles Muller has won his first-round match, defeating the 20th seed Fabio Fognini (Italy, ranked #23) in four sets, 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6.

The 22nd seed, Ivo Karlovic (CRO), also fell, as did the 17th seed Benoit Paire (FRA), the 5th seed Rafael Nadal (ESP), the 11th seed Kevin Anderson (RSA)

In the second round, Gilles Muller (ranked #38) will play against John Millman (AUS, ranked #95) who defeated Diego Schwartzman (ARG) in the first round.
