Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR) has announced that they are expanding their fleet of air ambulances, with the recent purchase of a new LearJet 45XR (designated LX-RSQ), which landed at Findel on 1 December, and replaces the recently-sold LearJet 35A.

The LAR now has four LearJet 45XRs. In the context of the fleet restructuring initiated in 2011, the LAR continually changes its LearJet 35A models against newer aircraft. The goal is that the last LearJet 35A will leave the LAR fleet by the middle of next year; it would thus be one of the most modern worldwide.

With the restructuring of the aircraft fleet, the LAR is taking account of the latest technological developments in aviation and medicine in recent years. The LearJet 45XR is one of the most technologically advanced jets in its category and offers a high range with low fuel consumption. In addition, the LearJet 45XR offers good short-land characteristics as well as its speed and its tank volume.

The patient transport system developed especially for the LearJet 45XR fleet of the LAR will not only meet the high quality requirements of the LAR, but also offer the possibility to quickly adapt the interior to the individual and versatile tasks of a modern air rescue organisation. In its standard configuration, the concept provides for two patient occupations and four seating positions. The interior is divided by curtains into two cabins. Patients retain their privacy and tranquility.

This configuration already offers different variants. On the one hand, two intensive caregivers can be transported, and are supervised by two medical crews. On the other hand, an intensive care patient and a non-intensive patient can be accompanied simultaneously by a medical crew, or an incubator and a mother. The two available seats are then available for relatives.

In the "single-stretcher" version an intensive care patient can be repatriated and there are still up to 4 seats available for his/her family members. For long flight times a second crew can be carried on board. These are just a few of the many ways to customise the interior usage of the jet to fit the individual needs - including special equipment to transport patients with highly-infectious diseases, as well as a unique stretch system for heavy-weight patients.

Like the three existing LearJet 45XR, the new addition is equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices, which are easily accessible and guarantee the best possible patient care.
