The BritCrime online crime fiction festival is taking place from 11 - 13 July 2015; the event is unusual in that it not only gathers together a number of the top names in British crime writing, but also is available online to everyone, regardless of location.
The festival brings together 41 acclaimed British crime writers, including Daniel Pembrey, whose novella The Candidate: A Luxembourg Thriller was published as a Kindle Single and became the #1 Crime, Mystery & Thriller Short Story on Amazon. It has since been optioned for feature film adaptation.
Other authors involved include chart toppers Mark Edwards, Louise Voss, Alexandra Sokoloff, Mel Sherratt and Helen Smith, the organiser.
Helen Smith explained “We’re a group of crime authors who became friends after seeing each other at book launches and literary festivals. We love meeting readers and spending time with them, but often hear that readers are unable to attend. So we set up BritCrime to give everyone the chance to meet and participate in live 'questions & answers'. We hope that our first event will be a lot of fun and that there will be the same intelligent, unpredictable and even hilarious discussions that keep us coming back to these live events.”
“It’s a brilliant idea,” said Daniel Pembrey, “because usually these crime festivals require you to travel to faraway places – Lyon for Quais du Polar, Bristol for CrimeFest, or even Los Angeles in the case of Bouchercon last year. All of these are great events, but there’s something so inclusive about a free online festival, available to all.”
Daniel Pembrey, author of The Candidate for which he led a book-reading at Chapter1 in Luxembourg-Merl not so long ago, and whose book is being adapted for the screen by a Luxembourg film production company, will be participating in the BritCrime 2015 edition. He has been scheduled to appear on a "Foreign Bodies" panel on Sunday 12 July at 19:00 (CET), alongside MJ McGrath (who was just nominated for the CWA Gold Dagger - http://thecwa.co.uk/the-daggers/categories/goldsboro-gold/). Her stories are set in the Arctic.
