Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (his first feature as director) and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World; A Good Day to Die Hard; Final Destination 3;
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), John Goodman (The Monuments Men; Inside Llewyn Davis; The Big Lebowski; Argo; Evan Almighty; Flight; O Brother, Where Art Thou?; The
Flintstones), John Gallagher Jr. (Short Term 12; Jonah Hex).
Mystery drama, 105 mins, 12+, in English
After fleeing her home in an apparent emotional break-up with her husband and being involved in a car accident, Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wakes up chained to a pipe in a bunker with Howard (John Goodman) and Emmett (John Gallagher Jr.). She is unshackled and told that it is dangerous to try to leave as earth is under a chemical or nuclear attack.
A psychological thriller that ebbs and flows with tension and twists aplenty. Just when you think you have it figured out, something else crops up to makes you doubt everything you thought you had believed until that point. Dark and atmospheric, fulls of suspense and thrills alike, quite Hitchcokian in its use us music to create suspense, the film is finely directed and acted, and worth more headlines that it's receiving. Well worth viewing.
