Directed Tim Miller (first feature film, better know for his visual effects) and starring Morena Baccarin (Serenity; Spy; various tv series) and Ryan Reynolds (The Captive; The Proposal; Green Lantern; Woman in Gold).

Action adventure, 106 mins, 16+, in English

Deadpool features Marvel comics' anti-hero, the wise-cracking and self-deprecating Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary who discovers he has multiple organ cancer. He is subjected to a rogue experiment by Francis (Ed Skrein) that leaves him disfigured but with accelerated healing powers and adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Unable to face himself, he leaves his girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) who works in a strip club and is hell-bent on finding a cure and seeking revenge over the person who disfigured him. Along the way he teams up with other super-heroes...

The script is littered with wicked humour and pokes fun at various actors and films (including X-Men) as well as the situations in which the characters find themselves. The plot may be wafer-thin but the special effects are spectacular, with the other super-heroes and their super-powers making for an interesting on-screen tale.

The opening credits are a clear precursor for the action to come, with the closing credits also worth waiting for; unconventional is one way to describe them. A marmite film - audiences will either love it or hate it; it's not for the faint-hearted and those who are easily offended.
