Luxembourg will be represented by two out of 26 films at the 3rd edition of the Trophées Francophones du Cinéma, it was revealed yesterday on TV5 Monde.
The Trophées, supported by ATFCiné, have nominated two Luxembourgish productions, meaning that the Grand Duchy will be one of the 15 finalist countries represented in the 2015 edition of the awards.
Actress Maja Juric has been nominated for the 'Female Supporting Role' Trophée Francophone for her portrayal of Sophie, the manic-depressive mother of Flëpp, in 'Mammejong'. The film, directed by Jacques Molitor and produced by Lucil Film, follows Flëpp as he struggles to contort himself from Sophie's suffocating grasp, embarking on an adventure of self-discovery with the chaotic and mysterious runaway Leena.
Iris Productions film 'Baby(a)lone' has also been nominated, with Tullio Forgiarini, Nicolas Steil and director Donato Rotunno in the running for the 'Screenplay' Trophée Francophone for their story of X and Shirley, two young teenagers drawn together in their shared familiarity with the dark aspects of life but are distinctly lacking in the happy youth usually characteristic of their ages.
57 feature films and 26 short films were submitted to the members of the selection committee, with the first round of voting distributing the nominations over 26 feature films and 5 short films from the Francophone sector.
All finalist films will be screened at the Palais de la Culture in Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire from 23 November to 2 December 2015.
The awards ceremony of the Trophées Francophones du Cinéma will be held on Saturday 5 December 2015 at the Palais d'Abidjan and will be broadcast on all TV5Monde networks.
