On Friday 20 November, the College of the Mayor and Aldermen planted the '2015 tree of the year', as part of the 'Nationalen Dag vum Bam' which took place in November last year.
The College was represented by Mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydia Polfer, and Viviane Loschetter, who helped to plant the field maple - or Acer campestre - in Cessange park. The addition of this field maple marks another tree planted annually since 1989 and is accompanied by an information panel on the species.
In addition, a class from the Cessange primary school, guided by the nature-activities educational staff an assisted by a team from the Parks Departments, also joined in on the action by planting hedges and gaining an awareness of respect for nature and the environment.
The tree planting initiative was launched by natur&ëmwelt and is supported by the College of the Mayor and Aldermen as part of the City's aim to ensourage biodiversity in the area, improve the urban climate and snrue a healthy and balanced living environment.
