Luxembourg Prime Minister, Minister of State and Minister of the Environment Carole Dieschbourg met last Thursday with the President and the Secretary General of the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), Mikael Karlsson and Jeremy Wates.
The meeting was organised in order to allow for discussions of EU environmental policy, specifically with regards to the priorities of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the interinstitutional agreement on 'better regulation', the Europe 2020 strategy and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), the high-standard agreement being negotiated between the United States and the EU.
Prime Minister Bettel emphasised during the talks the importance of the 21st Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change of 2015 (COP21), saying "The COP21 is destined to succeed and I welcome the agreement on the 17 sustainable development goals which were adopted last week by all Member States of the UN. Luxembourg is now already assuming a constructive role in the fight against climate change and we will continue this policy".
The meeting followed Luxembourg's endorsement of the Under 2 MOU in New York to combat climate change.
