A total of 224 applications for international protection were received in Luxembourg last month.

August 2018 saw the submission of 224 applications for asylum to the Luxembourg Department of Immigration. This represents a decrease in the number of applications received in July (238) this year, but a significant increase from the 182 applications received in August 2017.

The majority of the asylum applications last month came from people leaving Eritrea (62), followed by Afghanistan (37) and Syria (17). Applications mainly came from the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa, with only one coming from Venezuela on the American continent.

The total number of applications for 2018 so far is 1,312.
